My fiancé wanted me to send my 5-year-old twin brothers to foster care after I became their guardian—so I taught him a lesson he would never forget.

But that wouldn’t have been enough.

It was time for Brandon to learn a LESSON.

So I smiled and said:

“You know what? You’re right. I’ll do exactly what you said. But I have ONE condition.”

PART 2

Brandon blinked, taken aback by my sudden shift in tone. “A condition? What condition?”

“Since you’re so worried about our financial future,” I said calmly, crossing my arms, “we need to settle our joint wedding fund and the house deposit first. Before we make any decisions about Leo and Lucas, you need to transfer your share of the house deposit into my account so we can close the escrow deal, and I’ll sign over the joint engagement accounts to you. Then, we hold our engagement party this weekend as planned, announce the ‘new arrangement’ to both of our families, and transition the boys quietly afterward.”

Brandon’s face instantly relaxed. A smug, greedy smile spread across his lips. “See? I knew you’d be reasonable, Clara. It’s just logic. We can’t build a life burdened by two extra mouths to feed.”
