Then Kayla said something that made my fingers go numb.
“And once she believes he cheated, she’ll sign anything I put in front of her just to keep her marriage from falling apart.”
The recording ended.
Silence settled over the kitchen.
I turned to my sister.
“You planned to accuse my husband of sleeping with you?”
Kayla shook her head rapidly.
“No.

“You just said it!”
“I was angry!
I was talking!

“What context could possibly make that acceptable?”
She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
Andrew pulled out a chair and sat beside me.
“There is more,” he said.
I looked down at the papers again.
One page contained a series of attempted transfers from a small savings account I had opened several years earlier.
Another showed an application for a personal loan.
My name appeared on the loan application.
