“Thomas?”
Every instinct told me to throw Thomas out.
It turns out that everyone I love was keeping secrets from me.
But I wanted the truth more.
“Fine. You’re here. Then tell me why you left.”
He sat down slowly.
“Your mom and I married young. When you were born, I worked a lot. But I was a good dad.”
But I wanted the truth more.
My mom laughed bitterly. “He was wonderful. Everyone thought I had the perfect husband.”
“Then what happened?”
Thomas stared at the table.
“I had an affair. With a coworker. It lasted months.”
I felt sick.
“I kept coming home,” he said. “I kissed your mother. I played with you. I acted like nothing had happened.”
I felt sick.
“He brought me flowers on our anniversary,” my mom said. “The next morning, I found out he’d spent the previous night with another woman.”
