The location and steps vary by model and year. Check your manual under “electronic key,” “key not detected,” or “backup starting.” These methods still require the vehicle’s authorized key.
5. Remember the Car Has a Separate Battery
The key-fob
battery and the vehicle’s battery are different components. Replacing the small battery in your remote will not fix a discharged vehicle battery.
If the vehicle remains unresponsive, roadside assistance can help assess the problem. Any jump-starting procedure must follow the instructions for your particular vehicle, especially for hybrid or electric models.
6. Get Help if the Problem Continues
If a replacement battery and the correct backup procedure do not solve the problem, contact a qualified automotive locksmith or your dealership.
Avoid random online button sequences advertised as universal programming tricks.
Ask whether you should bring all your keys; Toyota specifically recommends doing so for certain smart-key malfunctions.
