Chapter 1: The Dress My Sister Said I Shouldn’t Have
My Sister Refused to Let Me Buy the Wedding Dress I Loved, Then Wore the Exact Same One at Her Own Wedding a Month Later — Karma Punished Her Right During the Ceremony
My name is Hannah, and my sister Grace and I had our weddings scheduled exactly one month apart this year, which felt thrilling at first, like we'd get to share the whole planning process together.
We went dress shopping together early on, both of us trying on gown after gown at the same little boutique downtown, laughing together in the dressing room mirrors.
I found one I loved right away, a fitted lace design with a low back, exactly the style I'd imagined for years, ever since I was a teenager cutting pictures out of bridal magazines.
Grace shook her head gently.
"It's a little outdated, don't you think?
And honestly, way too expensive for something you'll only wear once." I trusted her judgment more than my own gut that day, and quietly put the dress back on the rack.
A few weeks later, Grace came to me alone.
"You bought something cheaper, right?
Could you lend me a bit of money?
I'm short for the dress I actually want now."
I lent her the money right away, genuinely happy to help my sister on her big day.
My wedding came and went a month ago, lovely in its own quiet way.
Today was Grace's wedding, out at the same vineyard venue we'd visited together months earlier.
She walked down the aisle in that exact same lace gown, low back and all, the one she'd talked me out of buying for myself.
My eyes welled with tears immediately, standing in the front row watching her wear my dress in front of everyone we both knew.
I pulled her aside discreetly after the ceremony, before anyone else could notice us talking.
"You told me it was outdated," I said, my voice already shaking.
She just shrugged, adjusting her veil.
"I changed my mind.
It's gorgeous on me.
What's the big deal, honestly?"
I stared at her, speechless, my eyes moving past her shoulder toward the reception tent set up just behind us.
"WATCH OUT!" I screamed.
