Now Ethan stared at the envelope.
“What is that?”
Grace opened it carefully.
Inside was a three-page letter and a notarized document.
She had read both the night before.
Twice.
The first time, her hands shook.
The second time, they did not.
“My father created the Bennett Trust in 2017.”
“I know.”
“You know the version filed with the company.”
Ethan’s eyes narrowed.
Grace continued.
“There was a second instrument.”
Rebecca looked at her.
Even she had not seen this document yet.
Grace slid it toward her.
Rebecca began reading.
Declan stayed silent.
Ethan watched Rebecca’s face.
“What?”
Rebecca looked up.
“Daniel Bennett retained a reversion clause.”
“A what?”
Grace answered.
“If any person attempted to transfer permanent control of the patents without the beneficiary’s informed written consent, the operating license automatically terminated.”
Ethan stared.
Grace did not look away.
