I opened the door partway.
Molly spoke first.
“What the hell have you done?!”
I looked from her to Kai.
“Good evening to you too.”

Kai stepped forward.
“You turned Mom and Dad against us!”
“Did I?”
“Don’t play innocent.”
I leaned against the doorframe.
“What did you tell them?”
“Don’t play innocent.”
Kai hesitated.

Molly stared at me.
“Kevin…”
I waited.
“Do you know?” she whispered.
“I came back early yesterday.”
“Do you know?”
Her eyes moved toward Kai.
“I heard what you said upstairs,” I revealed. “Then I watched you kiss him.”
Molly covered her mouth.
Kai recovered first.
“So this was a setup?”
“I watched you kiss him.”
I looked at him.
“You made an announcement. I wasn’t there.”
“You called Mom!”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I didn’t want you telling her how I felt.”
