I Booked a Solo Cruise After a Painful Divorce from My Husband – On Day Four, a Stranger Sat at My Table and Whispered, ‘I’m the Reason Your Husband Divorced You’

The waiter had just filled my water glass when a shadow paused beside the chair across from me.

“May I?” he asked, pointing to the empty chair.

His voice was low. Careful. I looked up.

The man was tall, fit, around my age, and expensively dressed in a charcoal jacket. Something about his eyes tugged at a corner of my mind I couldn’t quite reach.

Before I could place him or answer, he sat down.

“I’m sorry,” I said, drawing my napkin closer to me. “I’m actually expecting friends.”

“I know. Hal and Marjorie. They’re not coming for another forty minutes.” He gave a small, apologetic smile. “I asked them what time they were coming.”

That should have alarmed me. Somehow it didn’t.

It felt more like standing on a step that wasn’t quite where I’d expected it to be.

“Do I know you?”
