I used to think leaving required one dramatic moment.
It didn’t.
Sometimes it begins with a half-inch of loosened rope.
Sometimes it begins with a neighbor who refuses to lie.
Sometimes it begins with taking back one small thing someone removed from you because they assumed you would never ask for it.
For me, it began in a field during a storm.
And the first thing I took back was my ability to walk away.
