Chapter 1: The Guest Who Forgot Her Place 027

“I don’t know.”

But I had a terrible feeling that Daniel had never intended to use Andrew’s supposed infidelity as merely a convenient distraction.

He wanted us frightened.

He wanted us divided.

And he was willing to threaten our marriage to get what he wanted.

I took a screenshot of the message and sent it to the lawyer.

Then I told Kayla she could remain in the guest room for the night, but there would be no further attempts to contact Daniel without discussing it with the lawyer.

She nodded.

I returned downstairs.

Andrew was waiting in the kitchen.

He had his laptop open and several files arranged across the table.

“I found something,” he said.

“What?”

He turned the screen toward me.

It was a public record connected to Harborlight Home Services.

The business had been registered under Daniel Mercer’s name, but its mailing address belonged to a company that specialized in virtual offices.
