A Man Kept Crowding My Plane Seat for Hours—Then Demanded to Know What I’d Done
I boarded that plane thinking the hardest part of my trip would be traveling without my husband. Instead, I found myself beside a stranger who treated my kindness like permission to walk all over me.
I was sixty-one, five-foot-two, and flying alone to meet my first granddaughter. I’d spent most of my life avoiding confrontation, but this time, keeping the peace came at a price.
The strange thing was, we started the flight on perfectly friendly terms.
“Looks like we’re neighbors,” the man said while boarding.
I moved my handbag off the middle seat.
“For the next six hours, anyway.”
He smiled. “I’m Josh.”
“Celeste.”
He was broad-shouldered, perhaps fifty, and wore an expensive-looking quarter-zip sweater with polished loafers.
“You got the good seat,” he said, nodding toward my window.
