When my five-year-old son peeked into the crib, he whispered, “Mom… this isn’t the baby we saw at the hospital.” At first, I thought he was just jealous—until he told me what had happened while I was asleep.

“She has a tiny red birthmark near her ear,” he said proudly. “That’s how I’ll always know she’s my sister.”

I smiled and told him he was going to be the best big brother.

But everything changed when we came home.

My husband, Daniel, carried the sleeping baby upstairs, and Max followed us. As soon as Daniel laid her in the crib, Max froze in the nursery doorway.

His eyes shifted from the baby’s face to her ear.

Then he slowly stepped back.

“That’s not her,” he whispered.

I thought I had misheard him.

“What do you mean?”

Max’s face turned pale.

“That’s not my sister.”….

Daniel laughed nervously and told him not to say such silly things. He assumed Max was simply exhausted after spending so many hours at the hospital.
