“That light was already green when I came in.”
Keller nodded. “And the security company confirmed the system was disarmed manually.”
“With a household code.”
“Yes.”
He looked at his notebook.
“They also confirmed the code was entered at 3:41 p.m.”
I checked the time on my phone.
The rideshare had dropped me near the end of Maple Drive shortly after four.
That gave whoever had entered the house plenty of time.
But there was something else that bothered me.
“What time did you say the code was entered?”
“Three forty-one.”
“And when did the system last record an exterior door opening?”
Keller paused.
“Three forty-two.”
One minute.
The alarm was disarmed first. The door opened second.
Someone hadn’t stumbled into the house and discovered the security system by accident. Someone had made a deliberate choice before crossing the threshold.
Keller asked, “Who knew that code?”
I didn’t answer immediately.
