Don’t wear these 3 colors to a funeral….here’s why

They're simply different from the traditional visual language of mourning in many Western cultures.

A bright red outfit can therefore appear more appropriate for a celebration, party, or social event than a solemn funeral service.

But that doesn't mean red is universally inappropriate.

Far from it.

Cultural Context Changes Everything

In some cultures, red has major ceremonial significance.

In parts of East and Southeast Asia, red can be associated with happiness, good fortune, prosperity, and celebration. Funeral traditions within these cultures can differ substantially from conventional Western mourning practices.

That means an article claiming that red is always disrespectful at a funeral would be misleading.

The context matters.

If a family specifically asks guests to wear red because it was the deceased's favorite color, following that request can be a meaningful gesture of respect.

The problem isn't the color itself.

The problem is wearing a highly conspicuous color without considering the occasion.
