Then stopped.
“The nursery.”
Ethan looked at her.
“What?”
Lauren’s face had gone still.
“Three weeks ago, the camera in the nursery went offline.”
Ethan frowned.
“The Wi-Fi reset.”
“That’s what we assumed.”
Naomi sat forward.
“How long was it offline?”
“Forty-seven minutes.”
Ethan looked at Lauren.
“You checked?”
“I check everything.”
Naomi opened her laptop.
“Do you still have the camera logs?”
“Cloud backup.”
Ethan took out his phone.
“I can access—”
“No,” Lauren said.
He stopped.
“Your devices may be compromised.”
That was when Ethan seemed to finally understand the true cost of one reckless decision.
His phone had not merely hidden an affair.
It might have become a door.
At 6:10 p.m., Lauren left St. Catherine’s through a secured underground exit.
Naomi sat beside her.
Two unmarked police vehicles followed.
Lauren had changed into black maternity pants, flat shoes, and a gray coat.
Her wedding ring remained in her pocket.
