Ethan stared at her.
Even now.
Even with their marriage cracking open.
Even with his father possibly connected to the sabotage of her car.
Lauren wanted evidence.
Not revenge.
Evidence survived courtrooms.
Anger did not.
Ethan finally nodded.
“What do you want me to do?”
“Nothing different.”
“Go to the board meeting like I don’t know?”
“Yes.”
“Sit across from him?”
“Yes.”
“And Madison?”
“Police will guard her.”
Ethan glanced toward the hallway.
“Does she know what’s on the drive?”
“Obviously.”
“Then she’s in danger.”
Lauren looked at him.
“For the first time tonight, we agree.”
At 11:28 a.m., a man wearing blue hospital scrubs entered Madison’s ICU room.
He carried a phlebotomy tray.
His badge said laboratory services.
The nurse at the desk barely looked up.
Hospitals were full of uniforms.
Full of badges.
Full of people moving quickly while everyone assumed somebody else had checked them.
