“This wedding is officially canceled,” Julian announced, his voice smooth, low, and laced with absolute venom that echoed off the high vaulted ceilings.
My mother dropped her champagne glass.
It shattered across the marble, sending crystal and red wine over the pristine white rug.
Dad shot to his feet at the head table, his face turning a deep, mottled purple.
“Julian! Have you lost your mind?!” my father roared, his voice cracking with panic as heads whipped back and forth between him and the groom. “What are you talking about?! Two hundred guests are here! The catering is paid for! This is insane!”
Maya sat frozen in her towering white lace gown, mouth hanging open in shock.
“Julian, baby, are you joking? Is this a prank? Stop it right now, everyone is looking at us!”
Julian didn’t even turn toward her.
His eyes remained fixed on my mother, whose carefully polished social facade was collapsing by the second.
