“And Joyce knew.”
“Yes.”
“Tyler?”
“Yes.”
My stomach turned.
“So the entire family knew.”
“Not everyone.”
“Who didn’t?”
Daniel looked at me.
“You.”
I laughed bitterly.
“Apparently.”
He pushed another document toward me.
“This is the important one.”
I picked it up.
It was an internal company memo.
My name appeared at the top.
I read it twice.
Then a third time.
“What is this?”
Daniel’s voice was quiet.
“A proposal to remove you from the Vance Development board.”
I looked at the date.
Three years ago.
“Why?”
“According to the memo, your husband believed you were ‘emotionally unstable and unsuitable for executive decision-making.’”
My hands trembled.
I kept reading.
Then I saw the signature.
Ryan.
Below it were signatures from Joyce and Tyler.
My own husband.
My mother-in-law.
My brother-in-law.
They had planned to remove me from the company while I was still married to him.
“Why didn’t it happen?”
